Le Réseau de Transport...Transit Bus

I really have a beef with the Transit system in Québec. There's more reasons than I probably know.
First of all, the website,
RTC Québec. There is absolutely no relevant information on the front page. Contrast this with Winnipeg Transit. Next, the map. Why do they think a replication of Mapquest is more accessible than a map divided by regions?

Secondly, the ID card.
Is it really necessary to have a photo ID to buy a general monthly pass? I mean it's clear I'm not a student since I have no student ID, and I don't look 15 or 60. But no, they insist that I buy a $7.00 ID. Yesterday, I found someone's ID on the sidewalk when I was returning home. I gave it to a bus driver. I really hope that she calls the RTC. If not, she'll have to pay $65.00 for another pass, along with $7.00 for a stupid ID.

Oh there's more...the transfers.
The transfer that the driver gave me read like this; Can not be used to return towards the point of departure via the same bus route. Seriously! In Winnipeg, in Ottawa, in Hong Kong, and whatever city you live in, you can return via the same route with a transfer. I have to pay $9.00 each week to go to my swing dance classes? Sorry, but I'd rather walk.

Finally, the network itself.
Québec is a recent amalgamation of several towns. Please do not link routes together as if it was a single city, like Winnipeg. It's so inefficient. If I want to go to another location in Sainte-Foy (where I live), it's pretty much impossible unless it's on Chemin Ste-Foy. The bus only takes me to downtown Québec and whatever is in the other direction. Barring that I wait for ridiculous transfer times, I can't see districts like Lévis, Beauport, and Sillery. Oh, I also forgot that you cannot find fold-out maps of Québec. Only those separate route maps for us plebians.

*sigh* /end rant

Quelle cochonnerie!

*soupir*

Ah yes, the bussing system. I have heard that it is just as terrible in Guelph/Toronto area. Apparently you can only transfer at the central loop. Meaning you can't get off at the bank and then catch the same bus to continue without buying another ticket. Crazy. But hopefully you will still be able to meet the really interesting people on your bus ride. :)

Lol.... Nice job with the bilingualism there, Tang... it's looking pretty good (from my reading... Not sure how much that counts for...)

Anyways... sounds like you can pound out a good rant with the rest of us. 17 Kelly-points for you!

I was hanging out with your roomies yesterday... things just aren't the same around there without you... your BROTHER is the landlord! Scary!

Anyways, Winnipeg is clearly superior. Come home.

I'll take a system that I've read in other blogs, and reply to each person in my comments (Thanks Mary!).

Andrea - Good to note that Québec isn't the only clearly whacked out city in terms of transit. I have a feeling I won't have as many "fun" bus stories as you'd like.

Kelly - Yeah Garry likes to think he's in control. We clearly know who is (even if they aren't living there anymore ;) ). Only 17 points? It takes me 3x longer to rant than you :P.

Benoît - Oh I know I'll be fine. I just hate having to learn one single lesson every time I use the bus. It just burns a hole in my wallet.
